Right now I'm out of work so I don't have much to do anyways haha. Maybe I'll take a few more pictures of that, and maybe a video of a comparison. I've also noticed that if I play with the eraser (moving it up and down constantly like I sometimes do) that if I have about a half a piece of lead in there, it's likely to get jammed between the eraser mechanism and the holder, because the mechanism isn't sealed like the old one and moves freely like a corkscrew that's caused some of the lead to break, and for the inside to get dirty from lead shards. The old one didn't retract if I was erasing while the new one slowly did so that means you always have to hold onto the eraser to erase everytime. I was actually testing the new eraser mechanism against my old one earlier today. ![]() Interesting, it seems like they were improving on the original design until sometime within the last few years, when they completely switched manufacturers. Apparently they sell both designs, it's possible they were running out of the old ones and have new ones on the shelf with them, because they were in two different packaging designs.įunny enough they're both the same price, the only thing is they're different size lead than the ones I have, and the older one seem like an updated version of my old one (still made in Japan and similar, but it seems like a modified version). So I just went to CVS and out of curiosity I checked their office supply's isle, and I saw some of these on the shelf. I have a few pictures comparing a new black one to my last one I had before I had to get new ones (I lost all of them), I can't remember how old it is, but it's at least 5 years old (could be 10, I can't remember for which school I bought it to use originally for).īefore you look at the other pictures, try and tell which is the older pencil here: I bought new ones today because I've always loved them since I was in elementary school, and was really disappointed with what Papermate did with them.
